20:20 Vision: Steele & Freeman builds 20th largest project in the state of Texas and it’s the 20th new school project they’ve built for repeat customer Keller Independent School District

Texas Construction magazine has just released its annual “Top Start” list: “Top 40 Projects - Top Starts of 2008”.  The magazine based its list on the forty largest projects in the State of Texas begun in 2008 based on dollar size of the construction contract.  Fort Worth-based Steele & Freeman, Inc.’s project Timber Creek High School, being built for repeat client Keller Independent School District, is number twenty (20) on the list.  The project, at $81,304,000 and 440,000 square feet, is the twentieth (20th) new school built for Keller ISD by Steele & Freeman.  Hired as Construction Manager by Keller ISD, the construction portion of the project began in March 2008 and is on schedule for completion in August 2009, in time for school to begin in the fall.  Keller ISD, one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Texas, has been on a multi-year school-building program to accommodate the population growth of the community.  Steele & Freeman was hired by Keller ISD for their first mutual construction project in 1998.  Since that time twenty new schools and more than forty-five projects total have been built by Steele & Freeman for Keller ISD.

At 440,000 square feet, Timber Creek High School has many “green” features; a few of them are the use of regional materials, rain water harvesting, and the use of natural daylight (daylighting).  A two-story building built to function for up to 2,500 students, it includes a two story entry atrium, a library, an acoustically engineered theatre, band and choir rooms, gymnasium,  eight science laboratories, a commons area with a cafeteria, a fine arts wing, classrooms, and administration area.  There is a separate field house with locker rooms, lit playing fields and practice fields.

“We knew that Steele & Freeman has always brought our school projects to completion on time.  We knew we had to complete this High School with this quality of work in the amount of time allocated to construction  When you’re building schools the building has to be completed for school to start in the fall”, stated Hudson Huff, Director of Construction Services for Keller Independent School District.
Steele & Freeman is a company whose reputation is built on providing outstanding customer service by building repeat customers one project at a time.
